The Life of Solitude in the Life of Ministry

Chauncey Shillow

The work of community development is work in the midst of distraction. Ministries teem with busy people and busy schedules. We must discipline ourselves to lead from emotional health rather than the skim of life. Of the many disciplines available to ministry leaders, the biblical discipline of solitude needs to be reclaimed in order to remain consecrated to God and to the vocation to which he has called us. In this workshop, participants will explore the biblical precedent for the life of solitude and hear personal stories from an urban pastor on the need for maintaining a vibrant life of solitude in the midst of the public life of ministry.
