Guns: Practical Firearm Violence Prevention for Every Clinician

Dave Chen, MD, MPH

Room 1

While legislation, advocacy, and the prevailing culture surrounding firearms are some of today's most controversial issues, injury prevention is a common goal for all practitioners. We will examine the diverse contexts of firearm injuries such as unintentional pediatric injuries, suicide, intimate partner violence/domestic abuse, and other criminological/assault types. We will also discuss the evidence on the effectiveness of injury prevention counseling for each of these groups as well as current legal mechanisms for harm reduction and how these have been used.
